Setting up a card reader or Tap to Pay

To take cards at your till, pair the approved reader, the Stripe M2 reader, or turn on Tap to Pay on a phone that supports it. You do both in Card Readers. This works in the phone and tablet app only, not on the website.

You need a Service Provider profile. Card readers are in Shop Settings, not in your Wallet.

What do I need first?

You need your payout account set up first. If it is not, tap Set up in wallet and finish the steps there. Then come back. See How to use XO Bestie Wallet.

If you tap POS before you set up a reader, a checklist shows a step called Set up a card reader. Tap it to come to this screen.

How do I pair the Stripe M2 reader?

1. Open Card Readers.
2. Tap Pair an approved reader.
3. On Charge your reader, charge it fully with the cable from the box. This can take up to 3 hours. Four lights means full. Tap Next.
4. On Get ready to connect, power on the reader and turn on Bluetooth on your phone or tablet. Do not connect the reader in your device’s Bluetooth settings. Tap Next.
5. On Pair your reader, wait for your reader to appear. Check that the serial number matches the one printed on the reader.
6. Tap Choose next to it, then tap Connect. Follow any steps shown on the reader.
7. On Finishing setup, wait. The reader may install an update, which can take a few minutes. Keep the reader close and powered on, and do not close the app.
8. When you see that the reader is connected and ready to take payments, tap Finish.

If the reader is not found, check that it is switched on and close by, then tap Try again. On Android, the app also needs Bluetooth and location permission to find your reader.

How do I know my reader is working?

It shows Connected and ready when it can take a payment. If it loses the connection, switch the reader on and bring it close.

How many readers can I pair?

One reader on each phone or tablet. To use a different one, tap Pair a different reader.

How do I remove a reader?

1. Open Card Readers.
2. Tap Delete and unregister.
3. Tap Delete to confirm. Tap Keep it to cancel.
4. On One more step on this device, open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, find the reader and choose Forget This Device. Then tap Got it.

You can pair the reader again at any time.

How do I turn on Tap to Pay?

Tap to Pay lets your phone take contactless cards with no reader. The Tap to Pay card shows on Card reader only on phones that support it.

1. Open Card Readers.
2. Tap Enable Tap to Pay on iPhone.
3. Keep the phone unlocked and stay on the screen while it sets up.
4. When you see that the phone is ready to take contactless payments, tap Done.

An iPhone needs the latest iOS and a passcode. An Android phone needs Android 13 or later and a screen lock.

To turn it off, tap Delete and unregister on the Tap to Pay card, then tap Delete. You can set it up again at any time. If you have a reader and Tap to Pay both set up, tap Make default on the one you want the till to use.
